She Left Paw Prints on Our Hearts

Today, we want to remember and celebrate our beloved Shelby, one of our cherished Sanctuary seniors.

From the moment she and her sister Macy came to Young at Heart in May 2021, they were survivors. They had come from a difficult past, and yet, they were full of love and trust. Shelby’s quiet, devoted spirit shone brightly every day, especially in her bond with her Sanctuary Family, Deb and Ralph, and of course, her sister Macy.

Shelby shared a particularly special connection with Ralph, who was facing end-stage cancer when the girls came home. Deb has told us time and time again that Ralph hung on longer because of them. While Macy brought energy and joy to their days, Shelby offered steadfast devotion, never leaving Ralph’s side and always snuggling with him on the couch, bringing comfort and companionship through difficult times.

Shelby’s life is a testament to what is possible for senior dogs when they are surrounded by care and devotion. Thanks to her loving mom, Deb, and the Sanctuary program that our generous sponsors and supporters make possible, Shelby experienced comfort, joy, and unconditional love every day.

Though our hearts ache with her passing, we are so grateful for the incredible years she had. Shelby was, simply put, the best of girls. Her memory will forever warm our hearts.

Rest peacefully, sweet Shelby. We’ll take good care of Macy and mom for you.
