Foster Responsibilities

At Young at Heart, we want to make fostering as easy and joyful as possible for you! All medical care for your foster pet will be fully covered when provided at our in-house veterinary clinic in Woodstock, IL.

We’re also here to support you with all the essentials. Whether it’s food, medications, a cozy bed, collars, leashes, belly bands, diapers, litter boxes, or litter – we’ve got you covered. Need a carrier, crate, baby gate, or pet stairs? We can loan those to you too!

Of course, if you’d like to provide your own supplies as a donation, we welcome that with open arms. Your generosity helps us care for even more senior pets in need!

Foster Responsibilities

  • As a cherished member of Young at Heart’s foster family, you’re providing a senior pet with a loving and supportive environment. To ensure the best care possible, here are a few things we ask of our wonderful fosters:

    • Create a safe, peaceful space where your foster pet can thrive, free from stress and surrounded by love.
    • Help keep them healthy by giving any medications prescribed by our trusted veterinarians.
    • When needed, bring your pet to our vet clinic in Woodstock, IL, for their medical care – we’ll guide you every step of the way.
    • Share the joy of your foster dog or cat with potential adopters, whether through phone or email, and give them helpful insights into your pet's personality.
    • Follow up with new adopters 48 hours after adoption to ensure a smooth transition for both the pet and their new family.
    • Check in with us once a week to update us on your foster pet’s well-being – we love hearing how they’re doing!
    • Spread the word about your foster pet’s loving nature, while being honest with any potential adopters about their unique needs.
    • If any medical or behavioral concerns arise, reach out to your dedicated Young at Heart mentor right away so we can provide support.
    • Should circumstances change, and you feel unable to continue fostering, please let us know at least 5 days in advance so we can make the necessary arrangements.
    • Remember, while fostering, your pet remains under Young at Heart’s care, and any rehoming decisions must be made in partnership with us.
    • Lastly, we understand things can change, and Young at Heart reserves the right to make alternative arrangements for the pet if needed.

Thank you for being part of this life-saving mission. Your love and dedication give senior pets the second chance they deserve!
