Meet Binx — a handsome senior gentleman looking for a home to call his own.

Due to an unexpected change in circumstances, our neighbor Jessie recently had to surrender his beloved pets. Thankfully, we were able to find homes for his fish and two indoor cats. Now Binx is the last one waiting for his next chapter.

Binx is approximately 10–12 years old and lives in the Logan Square neighborhood of Chicago. He is a beautiful black cat with a unique mahogany-colored undercoat and an adorable little nubby tail.

Binx has always been an indoor/outdoor cat and knows his neighborhood well. He used to spend his days exploring the block, and every evening when Jessie called his name, Binx would come running home.

He is an independent fellow who needs a little time and patience before deciding that you’re his person. It took a few weeks of feeding him before he trusted me enough to be petted, but once that trust was established, his sweet side began to show. Now he will sit on my lap while I’m on the porch and even follow me over to the community garden, where one of his favorite activities is rolling around in the mulch before settling down for a nap in the sunshine.

Binx isn’t your typical cuddly lap cat, though. He’s affectionate on his own terms and appreciates having his boundaries respected. He enjoys pets and attention but will become vocal when he’s had enough. He has swatted and scratched when overstimulated, so a cat-savvy adult home or a home without young children would likely be the best match for him.

Binx previously lived with two female cats, so he may be able to share a home with another cat with a slow, careful introduction. His experience with male cats and dogs is unknown.

Unfortunately, we have not been able to locate any veterinary records for Binx, and he has not yet been taken to a veterinarian, so his current vaccination status and overall medical history are unknown.

The dream for Binx would be a patient, understanding home where he can enjoy his golden years with plenty of sunshine, companionship and space to be himself. Because he is accustomed to spending time outdoors, a home that can offer safe outdoor access — such as a secure catio, enclosed yard or other protected outdoor space — would be especially wonderful.

Binx may make you earn his trust, but once you do, there’s something pretty special about being chosen by this independent little gentleman.
